چکیده

Individuals with α 1 -antitrypsin deficiency have increased elastase activity resulting in continuous degradation of elastin and early onset chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Increased may also affect elastic properties the heart, which impact risk heart failure. We tested hypothesis that is associated failure two large populations. In a nationwide nested study 2209 patients 21 869 controls without matched on birthday, sex, municipality, we recorded admissions deaths due to during median follow-up 62 years. studied population-based cohort another 102 481 individuals from Copenhagen General Population Study including 187 Danish -Antitrypsin Deficiency Registry, all genetically confirmed deficiency. versus had risks hospitalization (adjusted hazard ratio: 2.64; 95% CI: 2.25–3.10) (1.77; 1.14–2.74). Nationwide, these ratios were highest those myocardial infarction (3.24; 2.70–3.90), aortic valve stenosis (2.80; 2.38–3.29), hypertension (3.44; 2.81–4.22), atrial fibrillation (3.33; 2.75–4.04), any four diseases (6.00; 4.60–7.82). Hazard for failure-specific mortality 2.28 (1.57–3.32) 3.35 (1.04–10.74) cohort. conclusion, population.

Is there any difference between Vitamin D deficiency among heart failure and Non-heart failure elderly with cardiovascular disease?

Vitamin D deficiency is common among the elderly with and without heart failure (HF). This study was designed to identify the degree of vitamin D deficiency among HF and Non- HF elderly with cardiovascular disease. In this study, fifty hospitalized elderly patients with HF (26 women and 24 men, age range 60-90 years) and fifty elderly without HF were randomly selected. The level of serum 25-hyd...

ERAD defects and the HFE-H63D variant are associated with increased risk of liver damages in Alpha 1-Antitrypsin Deficiency

BACKGROUND The most common and severe disease causing allele of Alpha 1-Antitrypsin Deficiency (1ATD) is Z-1AT. This protein aggregates in the endoplasmic reticulum, which is the main cause of liver disease in childhood. Based on recent evidences and on the frequency of liver disease occurrence in Z-1AT patients, it seems that liver disease progression is linked to still unknown genetic factors...

NSAIDs associated with increased risk of congestive heart failure in elderly patients taking diuretics.

BACKGROUND Both diuretics and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are widely used, in particular among the elderly. The use of NSAIDs may decrease the efficacy of diuretics and induce congestive heart failure (CHF) in patients treated with diuretics. OBJECTIVE To investigate the risk of CHF associated with combined use of diuretics and NSAIDs in patients older than 55 years. METHO...

Heart Failure After Myocardial Infarction Is Associated With Increased Risk of Cancer.

BACKGROUND Heart failure (HF) is associated with excess morbidity and mortality for which noncardiac causes are increasingly recognized. The authors previously described an increased risk of cancer among HF patients compared with community controls. OBJECTIVES This study examined whether HF was associated with an increased risk of subsequent cancer among a homogenous population of first myoca...

Improvement of increased cQTd is associated with heart function in patients with ischemic heart failure

Background Chronic heart failure (CHF) is life-threatening without timely or effective intervention. In this study, we investigated the association between QT dispersion corrected for heart rate (cQTd) and heart function in patients with CHF. Methods From January 2013 to December 2015, we continuously enrolled 240 patients categorized as New York Heart Association functional class (NYHA) III-...
